How to plan a baby shower

Having a baby in the family is one of the most overwhelming feeling in the whole world. Not just for the to-be parents but also to everyone close to them. So your sister or best friend just told you that she’s pregnant and you’re ecstatic. In a few months there’ll be a bundle of joy in your life. While that is still a while away, another thing to look forward to for the to-be mom is the baby shower! So go on to read some excellent tips on how to plan a baby shower and make her feel on top of the world.

Venue
The first and foremost thing is where to have the baby shower. Keeping in mind the number of guests, you will need to find a hall big enough to accommodate all, not forgetting to keep aside a place for all the gifts and even for games and yet have enough room to move about. If there are no budget constraints, one can always book a hall in a hotel and that would take care of the catering and decorations as well. Else, just plan it in your house; she’ll love it either way.

Decorations
This is something which the guests will probably notice the first thing upon entering the baby shower. The decorations don’t necessarily have to punch a big hole in your pocket. Just head out to the games and party aisle of your favorite supermarket and you’ll find tons of decorations, balloons, party hats, invitations, disposable paper plates, forks etc.

Invitations
This is something you will need to discuss with the mother and father to be as they may or may not be comfortable inviting every one you know. Discuss the list with them and send out the invites well in advance. Do not wait till the last moment to send out the invites for the baby shower. It makes people think you initially forgot to invite them, not to mention they won’t have enough time to look for a gift. Send the invites for the baby shower at least a week before the event.

Date
Keeping in mind unforeseen situations in which the baby might arrive earlier than expected, it is always better to keep the baby shower at least one and a half to two months before the due date. This also gives an advantage where the mother can sort through gifts and decide basic necessities to keep handy during and after delivery.
Food
Ideally the food at a baby shower shouldn’t be too heavy on the stomach. Keep it light, keep it handy. Choose finger foods, cake, chips, pastries and muffins, salads and fruits, sandwiches with tea or coffee rather than having a full course meal.

Gifts
There are a host of gift options available for gifting the mother to be. From a whole range of body lotions, essential bath oils and skin care products to gifting her vouchers for a body spa or hair salon to make her feel beautiful or a big healthy basket of fruits and snacks to baking her some of your special homemade cookies, to gifting her essentials she might need once the baby arrives. Blankets, baby clothes, onesies, breast pump, a digital camera, a baby scrapbook of firsts, child monitors, stroller, a relaxation or yoga DVD specially for expecting mothers, convertible maternity clothing etc. are some of the gift options available.
As a host though, you can make small gift baskets to hand out to the guests as they leave, as a gesture of appreciation and thankfulness for taking time out to come to the baby shower.

Games
While hosting a baby shower, it is essential to keep guests entertained. Take the center stage from time to time and announce games which everyone can play. Pin up a large chart paper on the wall and ask the guests to pen down their good wishes for the baby and the parents. Also, you can have a baby shower crossword, Nursery rhyme titles(one who writes the most, wins), baby names from a to z(This can be helpful if parents haven’t chosen a name yet), Meaning of names, memory game, baby shower puzzles and so on.
